Programming JavaScript

JavaScript is a programming language that runs in the web browser software. It is used for interaction with the visitor at your website, to automate and interact with them as they move their mouse, click on liks, and fill in forms. Here's how JavaScript can make your website better.

Visual effects.
When a visitor at your website moves their mouse over an image that is linked to a page for purposes of navigation, JavaScript can be used to change that image, to indicate the link is active. The same effect can be used to resize an image, and change the color of a sweater on a product detail page.

Data quality assurance.
When a visitor at your website fills in a form to send you some information, you want to make sure the information they provide is the correct type. JavaScript can be used with what is commonly refered as "Form Validation". For example, when your user enters thier email address you can make sure it is a valid format like "username@domain.com", and not "dhueiwh7327gf". If they don't use a valid data format, all you get is garbage. And you don't want garbage.

Routine Automation.
JavaScript is also used to automate routine activities for the visitor. If you have a webpage that requires your user to login for security purposes, JavaScript can write a text file to the visitors computer (this text file is called a "cookie") so the next time they return to the login page, it will remember their login name, so they only have to enter thier password. The automation of simple rountine tasks like that helps your visitor have a better experience at your website.
