People > Andrea Scalise Wasiura
Vice President, Founder of Waztech
Creative director
I started working on a free 'zine in 1989 and quickly became interested in graphic design and layout. In 1992, I perused my options (very quickly), and quit my job that I got in desperation after college. Best choice of my life - the birth of WAZ Technologies, Buffalo style.
Next, movin' on to Arizona at the end of 1993, I quickly picked up the knowledge of the first multimedia platforms. It was hard coding, but I did manage to get a couple of freelance jobs.
In 1995, after becoming disillusioned by the heat of the desert (and seeing a few mirages to boot), we decided to move back to Western New York - landing in Fredonia, my college town. The local music store was starting a catalog, and it was just the right timing. With my background in audio engineering and music, it was the natural choice. I had loads of fun with the few catalogs that were printed, and bought my first Mac (it was about time!). Waztech was saved by Costello's Music, but unfortunately, Waztech couldn't save Costello's Music.
By this time I had started designing websites a la AOL and ye olde eWorld Internet access. This proved to be quite fun, and before we knew it, we picked up a few local businesses. I also started designing Enhanced CDs for a few bands, along with producing music videos and animations.
Of course, with the evolution of the late 90's the web became bigger than all of us, and I increased my base of websites and also became a business manager for a few local businesses. This proved to be a bit much, so after 2000 I stopped the business management and stuck strickly to websites and multimedia. Another good choice on my part.
Programming has become a necessity in recent years, and I keep up-to-date with new technologies for interactivity and useability. Who knows what the future will bring!
