Our History
The story of Waztech Internet Services.

We always loved to create visually exciting communication pieces, but felt that we were not getting the support or recognition we deserved from our employers. So we took our passion for creating excellence in the products and services that we were making and decided to do it ourselves. Once we got a taste of the recognition and reward that our customers were bestowing upon us, we couldn't look back. That was the starting point...

Our company name was WAZ Technologies, based on waz, which was our collective nickname from our college days together. We started out doing graphic design work for small businesses, which we favored because they were just like us. An underdog, with a passion for the best, but lacking the budget to be able to afford the best. We learned to get the results we wanted with less than perfect equipment. Our customers learned to expect great things from our work. And they still do.

We were based in Buffalo, New York, and decided that we wanted to be involved in a more dynamic environment, a place that was growing as fast as we were. So we moved to Phoenix Arizona, and Steve took a day job at a fire alarm installation company as the Engineering Manager while we grew our customer base.

We created a division for our desktop publishing business which was called Desert Graphics, and focused Waz Technologies on the growing field of multimedia CD-ROMs, combining graphics, images, sound and motion together into an all encompassing media experience. We produced several CD-ROM titles for individual businesses and musicians, a natural market for this new media.

During the infancy of the internet, we kept in touch with our friends back east using a now defunct online service called eWorld (I think it was part of Apple Computers). On eWorld, you could have server space to publish something called a web page. We were fascinated in this new publishing medium, being able to distribute your work to an ever expanding world audience without having to pay any postage fees! We bought a bunch of books and taught ourselves how to write HTML documents, and our focus changed to the world wide web. We changed our name to Waztech Internet Services to reflect our new direction.

But the summer in Phoenix proved too hot, and we headed back east for some cooler climate. We landed in our college town, a place called Fredonia New York, a region 60 miles south of Buffalo NY that is famous for it's vineyards and victorian amenities. We like it because it is a safe place to live and raise kids, and it's not too far from major cities like Buffalo New York and Toronto Ontario Canada.

The basic web pages lead to client side scripting in JavaScript, and then sever side scripting in Perl / CGI, which were dumped in favor of the newer technology Active Server Pages from Microsoft. Active Server Pages (ASP) really opened up the possibilities by easing the integration with online databases, allowing you to publish the latest data without making thousands of individual web pages.

During the internet boom, we went on to develop many websites for numerous small businesses. Unfortunately, those businesses and their websites followed the dot com bust to their deaths. So we started to pay more attention to the business and consumer side of the equation, and less emphasis on the technological bells and whistles of the latest internet buzzword. That resulted in us being able to develop award winning websites that served a purpose by solving real problems for customers of our clients. Like any great learning experience, it taught us to be stronger.

And that's why we believe that you get a better website from our professional experience. We take what we've learned from the best practices of successful websites, and we build upon that solid foundation, so you don't have to waste time and effort learning it from ground zero.

Will you help us write the next chapter of our history?
